My beginning in Rhythmic Gymnastics ;)

25 May

I started being interested in rhythmic gymnastics like 3 years ago because I started enjoying my cousin´s competitions and routines, so I asked my mom to join in a team just for fun but she didn´t want me to join it because I didn´t have so much time because of anothers activities that i was doing like dancing and playing the piano and the guitar.

Last year I beg my mom to do it and I found out that I could do rhythmic gymnastics in my school, because a year ago there wasn´t rhythmic gymnastics like activity after school in my school. So I convinced my mom and I join rhythmic gymnastics in my school. My trainer told me that I had the flexibility that i needed to compite, so she told my mom to go to another school where she was the trainer too. In that school, almost everyone compite in this sport so I finally joined the team. At first my mom thought that it could be hard for me to start in a competition team so I told her that she didn´t have to worry about that because I could took it.

Nowadays, it´s my second year in that team and I feel so happy with the other girls that are in my team, we are happy to stay together perhaps some girls that are now with me are not the same that last year ones. We always help and rely on each others because we are a team and we all enjoy doing a sport that we like and we need to be like that, because we couldn´t be a good team if we´re not in a good way togehter.

The history of fashion from 1790-1820

25 May

On 1790’s: THE WOMAN: “undressing age”; they were dressed as statues coming to life; their shirts were simple muslin. They were the silhouette of the Empire. Her make up was natural. Used carry the bare arms and put wigs blonde and equipped with (to demonstrate individuality): hats, turbans, gloves, jewelry, small bags, scarves, umbrellas, fans. Their hair wore it with a stripe in the Center and wore curls tight on the ears. THE MEN: well equipped with their ties were wrapped up to the Chin, its pins to the “style of Brutus”. They wore natural hair, tight pants, silk stockings. And accessories they wore gold watches.

Week Seven

25 May

We are back in the lab. Students are still not inspired to post anything from home. What can be done to remedy this? Motivation? Demand? I’m not sure but this has definitely been a drawback of using the Blog as a class tool.

Like I mentioned last week the actual correction of the material is also difficult – I think the best way to integrate the Blog would be to print out the posts and use them in class. By making the “virtual” somehow “real” it may have more of a lasting effect on them. As it stands, they enter content during class time and leave it at that. I edit it during the next class and tell them to look at my corrections, but I have no faith that they do so.

They enjoy it on the surface as an activity, but it has yet to become personal. It is definitely me telling them to do it. I don’t really have any allusions that it will become “personal” but it is a nice idea!

Silly – but playing them Paul Simon’s, Graceland – a classic, who knows, one never knows where inspiration will come from. Here is an image of the CD Long Box from the summer of 1986!!

….AND you must fight off Google Translate…

History

18 May

Rhythmic gymnastics started as an independent competitive sport in the early nineteen fifties by the Russians. The International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) officially recognized rhythmic gymnastics in 1962, first as modern gymnastics, then as rhythmic sportive gymnastics, and finally as rhythmic gymnastics, and held the first World Championships for rhythmics in 1963 in Budapest, Hungary. Rhythmic gymnastics was added as an Olympic sport in 1984, and competition was held in the individual all-around. In 1996, group competition was added. Groups were introduced at the same level in 1967 in Copenhagen, Denmark. Rhythmic gymnastics was added to the 1984 Summer Olympics inLos Angeles, with an Individual All-Around competition. However, many federations from the Eastern European countries were forced to boycott by the Soviet Union. Canadian Lori Fung was the first rhythmic gymnast to earn an Olympic gold medal. The Group competition was added to the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. The Spanish team won the first gold medal of the new competition.

Nowadays, rhythmic gymnastics has been changed a lot and the Spanish team continues being one of the best teams of the world.

Week Six

18 May

Ooopps….I accidentally deleted my Week 3 post and cannot find it… (note to self)

After a bit of confusion over lab use, the class is logged in and writing. I have found it best to give the students some ideas before each session as that helps them use their time most efficiently.  If not, I have noticed that they fritter away minutes thinking of what to write – the power of suggestion!

In general, I would say that it has been going well, they aren’t mad about the project, but the interest level has steadily been increasing and I think that it is something that would easily work in higher frequency. However, posting outside of class still hasn’t taken root. I’ve asked on several occasions, however it has only happened once or twice.

We are listening to Tim Hardin, who was an American folk  musician from the nineteen sixties. It must sound very exotic to them! Imagine it’s from the time of their grandparents. But, I feel that’s part of my role too, to expose them not only to lexical chunks but cultural chunks as well.

The last week I’ve read…

11 May

The last week i’ve read a lot of books:

The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight, Jennifer E. Smith.

This book is about a girl called Hadley who met a boy in a plane, she is going to the wedding of his father, and she is very angry becouse she doesn’t like his girlfriend. I like this book becouse the dialoges are very funny, and the love story is very speciaal.

This Lullaby, Sarah Dessen.

Remy starts her summer, with the 3ª wedding of his mother a very famous writter. One day she meets Dexter, a very messy musician, lake her father. I think this is oone of the best books i ever read, is bery beautiful, and the carachters are so cute.

If I stay, Gayle Forman.

In a car acciden’t, Mia lost all her family and she stay in coma. But, her soul can watch all the things that are around her. I love this book, is so specil, and Mia tell us her life before the accident, and about her boyfriend and her littlel brother.

Where she went, Gayle Forman.

It’s the second part of If I stay, it’s about Mias life in New York , after the accident. Now she is a very good musicians, she plays the cello. One day , she saw her old boyfriend Adam, he is now a superstar. I like this book too, the relaccionship between Mia and Adam is so beautiful.

Leotards

11 May

One of the most important things that each gymnast needs in a competition and , which that makes this sport very beautiful, are the leotards. The colour of the leotards depends a little bit  on of the music and the routine that you have.

You should wear a light and brightly coloured leotard, if you have a happy and slow music. They´re kind of simple and they usually have lots of sparkles and sequins.

If you have a fast but happy music, you should wear have a colourful leotard, one which has a lot of sequins and sparkles too.

The black and dark colours are used with fast and sad musics, but if it´s just sad music you can wear too a light coloured leotard as well, with sequins and sparkles too.

The design of them depends of  on the music too. In my experience, I have seen a little girls that had  have The Smurf´s music and she wore a leotard that was like the Smurfette´s dress, but this is just what trainers design for little girls. For teens, trainers design more serious leotards, with fire designs and things like that.

Week five

11 May

We’re back in the lab. Last week was a “puente” and we chose not to come to the lab so hopefully the kids are excited and will post numerous things….I’m a bit under the weather but trying to make the best of it. I feel the students have responded well to this project so far and hope we can build on what we’ve doing over the next few weeks.

Some notes for future attempts at class blogging – tell the students to create clear and easy usernames and passwords to remember. Every class there are several minutes eaten up by students who can’t recall one or the other…or both.

So, I’m realizing that one of the hardest things is how to use this as a teaching tool – one where the students can reflect on the mistakes the have made in their writing. I am not sure what the best way to correct their entries is.
